Goma, 1 February 2010 - At a transit camp in Goma, 22 year old Marie Uwinjeneye, the wife of an FDLR ex-combatant began to complain about pains in her groin and back. It turned out she was pregnant, and delivered her baby safely. Thanks to Disarmament, Demobilization, Repatriation, Reintegration and Resettlement sensitizers and a nurse on duty, mother and baby are both well.

Uvira, 30 January 2010 - The “inter-communal talks” are designed to back the pacification and stabilisation process for South Kivu province at a time when Operation Amani Leo is preparing to dismantle the remaining pockets of resistance of Mai Mai, FDLR and FRF armed groups known as the major obstacle to the peace process in eastern DRC. The talks were attended by 50 participants.

Mbujimayi, 30 January 2010 - In Eastern Kasai province, MONUC has financed the construction of a footbridge connecting two districts of Mbujimayi, the provincial capital. The ceremony of officially handing over the bridge to local authorities was held on Friday, January 29, 2010.

Kinshasa, 28 January 2010 - The Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) Adolphe Muzito officially handed to the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for the DRC, Alan Doss, a cheque in the amount of US$ 2,500,000 dollars, as a token of solidarity from the Congolese people to Haitians, victims of an earthquake that hit their country on 12 January. Haiti Consul's to DRC attended the ceremony.
