Kananga, 11 August 2009 - Two three day training sessions were organized for 293 Congolese National Police (PNC) agents in Kamonia and in Tshikapa in Western Kasai province. The training sessions that ended on Sunday 9 August 2009 were organized by the MONUC Police of Kananga, in collaboration with the PNC Provincial Inspectorate.
The training programme, which is aimed at reinforcing the capacities of the PNC, was centered on the maintenance and the restoration of public order, the management of election polls as well as general intelligence.
Through these three training modules, MONUC wanted to endow the policemen of Kamonia (148 in total) and Tshikapa (145) in efficient techniques in these three essential daily police activities.
It will allow them to avoid mistakes and violations of citizens’ rights during work on the ground. This MONUC contribution was welcomed by the administrative and local authorities responsible for peace and security.
Humanitarian and human rights organizations also welcomed the training, as part of MONUC’s contribution towards a rule of law in the DRC.
