MONUC calls judicial authorities to exercise diligence investigating journalist Koko's assassination

Kinshasa 26 August 2009 – MONUC is both deeply shocked and concerned at the assassination of yet another journalist in Bukavu during the night of 22 to 23 August 2009.

MONUC strongly deplores and condemns this horrible act that affects the entire Congolese press in general and the journalism profession in particular. The Mission exhorts judicial officials to track down the presumed perpetrators and let them face the full force of the law. This will undoubtedly contribute to promoting the fight against impunity.
MONUC stands ready to assist the Congolese authorities if requested.
