Monuc condemns the murder of a military observer in Kalehe

An unidentified group of armed militiamen threatened and attacked UN unarmed Military Observers based in Kalehe, 50 km North of Bukavu. One of the Observers was killed in the attack.
MONUC condemns in the strongest term the cowardly and heinous crime.

The Mission, conjointly with the Transitional Government, will take necessary actions to ensure that those found guilty are arrested and punished under the law in force.

MONUC calls on all parties to participate in the identification and arrest of those guilty and to comply with the principle of impartiality of both its civilian and military staff.
