MONUC condemns in the strongest terms the violation of the cease-fire in Bukavu by Colonel Jules Mutebutsi's troops and the ensuing lootings.
MONUC urgently appeals for an immediate cessation of the hostilities, the protection of civilians and the return of calm in order to facilitate the restoration of legality in the South Kivu province.
MONUC denounces any attempt for taking the town of Bukavu by force and formally declares that the transitional institution was put in place to help resolve political and military differences.

MONUC reiterates its support of the Transitional Government's efforts for the resolution of the crisis and condemns all those who would attempt to weaken it oppose the restoration of its authority across the country.
