Closure of MONUC

On 1 July 2010, the UN Security Council renamed MONUC the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO) to reflect the new phase reached in the country.

Public Information

The Public Information Division is made up of six large units, all based at the MONUC headquarters in Kinshasa.

The Units receive and use the contributions of Public Information Officers deployed throughout the country.The Division is headed by a Director.

United Nations Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo

Established in 1999, MONUC was created to monitor the ceasefire in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and support peace efforts. In 2010, the mission transitioned to MONUSCO to reflect a shift toward stabilization and long-term peacebuilding.
