Reported fresh clashes in North Kivu dominated headlines on Tuesday in Kinshasa's newspapers.
Six days after the close of the Goma peace conference, « violent clashes have been reported more than 40 km west of that town ... between Laurent NKunda's [rebel group] CNDP [or National Council for the Defence of the People] and the PARECO Mai Mai [militia] », Le Palmarès reports.
The rival armed groups « are blaming each other for these clashes, » according to La Tempête des Tropiques. .
"MONUC [The UN Mission in the DRC] has dispatched a patrol team to the scene in order to investigate this violation of the ceasefire that was signed last Wednesday," Le Palmarès reports.
La Référence Plus reports that other clashes erupted « yesterday [Monday] morning between [Hutu rebels of] RUD [or Rally for Unity and Democracy] and those of the rival FDLR in Kiseguru »
These are two Rwandan rebel factions « fighting each other in Congolese territory », Le Palmarès points out.
This is one reason why, La Référence Plus believes, « the international community must act in order to neutralise these Rwandan rebels that are spreading death, terror and desolation in the DRC».
Another reason is that, « according to many observers, the DDRRR [Disarmament, Demobilisation, Repatriation, Reintegration and Resettlement] put in place by MONUC has been a failure despite an intense sensitization campaign [to ensure awareness of the process] », according to La Tempête des Tropiques.
In other news, Le Phare reports that two persons « suspected of having killed Ms Aimée Kabila have been arrested».
« In avowals made to the police, the two murderers said they had been [at their victim's house] looking for mobile phones [to steal]," according to Le Potentiel.
