Security situation for 2 October 2008 (6pm)

Kinshasa, 2 October 2008: In Ituri since last Monday, the remaining elements of the Front de Résistance Patriotique de l'Ituri (FRPI) have attacked the DRC Armed Forces (FARDC) positions, capturing the camps of Tchey and Quinz.
The militiamen attempted an advance on the village of Aveba, but have been repulsed by MONUC Forces since September 30 last. Today, 2 October, a MONUC aerial reconnaissance mission came under fire from the militia, and was obliged to respond with rocket fire.

MONUC intervenes with all the means at its disposition, including attack helicopters in order to protect the civilian populations in imminent danger.

Moreover, MONUC collaborates with the FARDC in order to reestablish state authority in Irumu territory.
