The blast from General Padiri's motorcade is accidental

The 29 January explosion from the motorcade of General Padiri (commander of the 9th military region) in Kisangani is accidental. This is the finding made by the Board of enquiry put in place after the incident, comprising MONUC representatives, Congolese National Army and high-ranking police officers, as well as a Provincial Security Committee.
The incident has its origins in a rocket fired by accident due to the carelessness of the military team in General Padiri's motorcade. The backfiring from the rocket launcher slightly injured two people in the vehicle. MONUC dispatched an ambulance to the scene.

According to the Board of enquiry, General Padiri had declared, in all sincerity, that it was an assassination attempt, referring to the detonation from the motorcade.

The investigative committee has submitted some recommendations on the carrying of weapons by the security guards, to the authorities concerned to make sure that this incident does not happen again.
