Monuc Military Observer Dies North of Uvira

A soldier from the United Nations Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo died Friday 19 March 2004 in a traffic accident some 70 kilometers north of Uvira.
The accident occurred between Uvira and Kamanyola. According to the latest information, the soldier was traveling in an armoured vehicle (APC) that rolled over due to poor road conditions. There were no other casualties.

A MONUC investigation team will go to the scene on Saturday 20 March to determine the exact circumstances of the accident.

The soldier was the 26th member of MONUC's military to pass away since the mission's deployment in November 1999.
