Kinshasa, 30 January 2009 -"The MONUC Planning and Liaison Team put in place in Goma, is not yet operational. We expect first to be associated with the planning of the operations," according to the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary General for the DR Congo, Alan Doss.

Mr Doss established the Planning and Liaison Team within MONUC on 27 January 2009, at the request of the DRC Minister of Defence. This team is to work with the Goma-based joint command cell for the DRC/Rwanda military operations. Its role is strictly confined to the areas of planning and liaison.

MONUC also wishes to stress that it will not participate in any operation in which Mr Bosco Ntangana will be called upon to play a role at whatever capacity.
