MONUC Press Review - 11 October 2007

The situation in eastern DRC is the principal focus of the Kinshasa newspapers this Thursday 11 October 2007.
"Fighting is taking place in the territory of Masisi between the FARDC and the loyalists of Laurent Nkunda," reports Le Potentiel.

And, for the moment, "the FARDC are in the process of gaining ground against the Nkunda rebels," adds Le Potentiel.

In effect, the Congolese Armed Forces "control Karuba and Muremure," underlines Le Palmarès.

"Nkunda is routed" adds La Tempête des Tropiques. "More wheels in motion," says L'Avenir. "85 bodies abandoned on the ground," reports Le Palmarès.

This is because, "the government has put the means at the disposition of the Congolese Armed Forces to rapidly reduce the ambitions of Laurent Nkunda," explains L'Avenir.

Frankly, estimates Le Potentiel, "the moment has come to put a definitive end to the long holiday that the ex General has benefited from.....to end this racket once and for all."

Meanwhile in Kinshasa, "80 deputies have signed a motion which puts the job of the minister of state close to the presidency at risk," informs La Référence Plus, in relation to the crash landing of the Antonov 26 in Kingasani, Kinshasa.

For the elected representatives, the minister of state close to the presidency is "legally and politically responsible for the plane accident on 4 October last," said Le Palmarès.

The signature of a motion of no confidence « accuses the minister of abuse of power and to have privileged business and private interests to the detriment of the public," declares La Référence Plus.

"This motion of no confidence will be examined on Saturday," announces La Tempête des Tropiques.
