MONUC verifies allegations on armed incursions into Rwanda

MONUC acquaints itself with public declarations and accusations on incursions of FDLR gunmen into Rwanda from the Democratic Republic of Congo and Burundi.
MONUC expresses serious concerns and says if it turned out, upon verifications that the statement on the incursions was true, they would constitute both a serious threat on the ongoing transitional process in DRC and a serious danger to the peace in the sub-region.

MONUC immediately ordered its Brigade in the Kivus to redouble its vigilance and increase its patrols. Verifications operations are being conducted in the DRC territory.

MONUC further appeals to the concerned governments to fully face up to their respective responsibilities as regards the control of their territory and borders.

MONUC will endeavour to prevent any violent action likely to endanger the ongoing process for the restoration of peace to the sub region. It will unflinchingly proceed with the DDRRR operations of the armed groups in the DRC with a view to completing, with the help of the transitional Government, the repatriations as soon as possible.
