Security situation in Eastern DRC is the major issue in today's local papers.
Five days after the Kanyola massacres, "seven people have been kidnapped in Cidaho villages," reports La Tempête des Tropiques.

Who perpetrated the kidnapping? "9 armed gangs, one of whom a civilian...all of whom speaking Kinyarwanda and Mashi," reports La Tempête des Tropiques, indicating, "The crime was perpetrated by Hutu rebels."

"The new crime may trigger off a new war in eastern DRC," says Le Palmarès, echoing Bukavu archbishop who condemns "in the strongest possible terms, Government's mismanagement of the armed forces' operations on the ground; troops are faced with acute shortage of supply and logistics." The archbishop "calls on President Joseph Kabila to quickly deploy in the region elite troops to avert the danger of an imminent war both in North and South Kivu," reports La Tempête des Tropiques.

"Congres pout la Defence du Peuple led by Laurent Nkunda is determined to seize power exactly like the AFDL did with Laurent, Désiré Kabila," writes Le Phare, wondering why Nkunda "has the liberty to call into question the mixage process (troop-mixing process), withdraw his troops whenever he likes and continue to set personal requirements."

L'Avenir quotes MLC Secretary-General for political matters, François Mwamba as declaring, "Everything must be addressed within the established institutions," noting "the issue about the legitimacy of the power was not unfortunately sorted out by the 2006 elections."
