Press Review of 5 June 2007

In today's local press, there is mention of a possible attack by Rwanda against DRC.
In this respect, La Tempête des Tropiques echoes the paper ''Grands Lacs confidentiels'' that reports "a meeting recently held in Kigali on 01 – 03 June 2007 in anticipation of the attack against Eastern DRC." The paper also says, "the purpose of the meeting attended by several military and civilian authorities (Laurent N'Kunda, Ruhorimbere, Bisogo, Colonel Dany, Kokolele and Bosco Ndaganda...) was to work out a strategy on the assault." La Tempête des Tropiques has some reservations about "the revelations" but appeals to the Congolese authorities to "be cautious and vigilant to guard against all eventualities."

L'Observateur argues that "chaos in Eastern DRC would be seen as an attempt to harm President Kabila" in so far as, "Many people do no look favorably the fact that Kabila's administration has been successful and would definitely stop their devilish adventures in DRC."

In other news, "Provincial MPs of Kinshasa is to decide today whether for or against Kinshasa Governor's administration's set-up" says Le Potentiel. Should the motion be rejected by the majority of the MPs, the Administration set-up will merely be rejected and will oblige the Governor to tender his resignation," explains the paper, highlighting, "The National Assembly is comprised of 25 MPs for UN [Opposition] versus 23 MPs for AMP (Presidential Majority), writes Le Potentiel, signaling "arrest of 2 MPs of the Provincial administration of Kinshasa on Friday 1st June to prevent them to participate in the vote for or against Kinshasa Governor's administration to be set up."
