Oress Review of 7 February 2008

Nothing special is reported in today's local press.
Le Palmarès announces "Jean-Pierre Bemba's comeback to Kinshasa early March; the comeback will coincide with parliament recess which will allow the senator to join the parliament at its reopening." In the meantime, "his political party, MLC, is threatening to boycott the local, municipal and urban elections due next August if the law on the independent electoral commission (CENI) to replace the independent electoral commission (CEI) contains stunning flaws," says the same paper.

"The Secretary-General of President Kabila's political movement known as PPRD has refuted the rumor that the President was killed," writes La Tempête des Tropiques, urging "the judiciary authorities to seriously look into this matter, recalling that the same rumour prevailed prior to the assassination of the late President Laurent Desire Kabila."

In other news, Le Potentiel reports, "postponement of Serges Maheshe's trial until 13 February, a Radio Okapi journalist murdered on 13 June 2007 in a territory other than Bukavu on the grounds that his lawyers did not show up."
