Press Review of 1st October 2007

The majority of today's local papers mainly comment on a possible DRC cabinet reshuffle shortly.
In this respect, Forum des As reports, "the new reshuffled cabinet will be known this week."

Le Potentiel, for its part, refers to the cabinet reshuffle as "a real clearout," while Le Phare highlights, "The Cabinet departments that were unnecessarily splitted should now be grouped together."

Forum des As indicates, "Cabinet team must be decreased from 60 to 40 members, to include 26 ministers and 14 deputy ministers."

Referring to the current Prime Minister, Le Potentiel reports, "the latter will remain in office and will be assigned two deputy-Prime Ministers; one of them will be in charge of the political, administrative, financial and economic matters whilst the other will be in charge of the defense, security, justice, social and cultural affairs."

Le Phare notes, "The reshuffle strikes fear into cabinet members begging for presidential leniency."

Le Potentiel maintains, "The reshuffle is aimed at giving new impetus to Government's actions featured by status quo; in over six months in office, Gizenga's Government failed to meet the Congolese people's expectations; what we need now is more deeds than talks."

"DRC urgently needs highly skilled officials to run public institutions," says Le Phare, indicating, "we should have the right man in the right place in future."
