Press Review of 29 May 2007

Today's local press mainly focuses on the draft law on the State budget 2007.
The headlines in Le Phare read: "Prime Minister Antoine Gizenga Fundji to present the draft law on the state budget 2007 to Parliament Today."

L'Avenir refers to the event as "the first real exercise for the Prime Minister" in so far as "the proposed budget faces bitter criticisms."

"With the budget of US$ 2,137 billion, not even a third of the Herculean Tasks of Reconstruction set by President Kabila would be achieved during the first five-year period," wonders L'Avenir.

"The five Herculean tasks of the Head of State and Government program will in no way be achieved with such a budget," says La Tempête des Tropiques.

"The budget is suicidal and anti-social for a country hardly pulling out of a devastating war," reckons L'Avenir.

Le Potentiel concludes, "...the budget is mostly meant to meet donors' expectations."
