Press Review of 30 May 2007
Today's local press mainly focuses on the ongoing debates at the Parliament over the draft State budget 2007 presented by Prime Minister Antoine Gizenga Fundji yesterday.
"Prime Minister's arguments were convincing," reckons L'Observateur, indicating, "He indeed passed his exam before the Parliament," says La Référence Plus.
In this respect, L'Avenir reports, "40% of the budget in the amount of US$ 2.4 billion to be contributed by donor countries, 56% to be generated locally and...the 4% gap to be filled by the Government itself."
"It would be irresponsible for the MPs to reject the budget," argues L'Avenir.
However, "Gizenga did not convince," says La Tempête des Tropiques, highlighting, "the Prime Minister has only 48 hours to persuade the MPs."
L'Observateur, for its part, calls on the MPs "to adopt the rejected budget by the opposition's MPs with some amendments."
Le Potentiel just notes, "The budget 2007 is therefore midway between rejection and approval with amendments."
In other news, Le Potentiel reports, "Congolese Heads of Special Services who work in Goma, DRC during the day and go to Gisenyi, Rwanda in the evening to spend the night."
