Press Review of 9 October 2007

Today's local papers once again focus on the new fights in eastern DRC.
Le Potentiel reports "intense fights in eastern DRC" while La Tempête des Tropiques refers to "an all-out offensive launched by the dissident Nkunda with the aim of capturing the town of Goma."

"Now that the truce has been disrupted by the dissident Nkunda, the Congolese people would like to see how the International Community and Rwanda will react to the challenge," writes Le Potentiel.

La Tempête des Tropiques warns "N'Kunda's threat must be taken seriously by the political and military officials that must do everything in their power to spare the DRC a humiliation." The paper further reveals the dissident's intention to "to break down the last barrier set by Government officials at Goma airport."

In other news, Le Palmarès announces "a stormy plenary meeting of the parliament scheduled today on the crash of the antonov 26; the debates are highly expected by the population."

Le Phare reports, "The Minister of State to the Head of State's office who repealed the decree issued by the Minister of Transport to ban the Antonov from flying over the DRC territory will be heard by the Parliament."

The wife of the dismissed Minister of Transport "brutally refuted the accusation that her husband was incompetent" and argued that "her husband should be given the opportunity to defend himself."
