Press review of 13 June 2008

Today's local press largely comments on the new ICC mandate against Jean-Pierre Bemba.
"The International Criminal Court (ICC) increases charges against MLC leader (Jean-Pierre Bemba)," reports La Tempête des Tropiques.

"The new charges brought up on Tuesday 10 June 2008 highlights the "murders committed by Jean-Pierre Bemba's troops in the Central African Republic," says Le Potentiel, indicating, "the charges add on to the crimes of rapes, tortures and looting included in the 23 May warrant of arrest."

Referring to the seizure of Jean-Pierre Bemba's properties, Le Palmarès reports, "DRC Justice Minister is expected at the Lower Chamber of the Parliament" in connection to "the State prosecutor's order to freeze Jean-Pierre Bemba's bank accounts."

In this vein, L'Avenir reports, "the State Prosecutor's order has further fuelled the on-going debate in Kinshasa about this issue."

"The crisis has reached intolerable levels," writes Le Phare, indicating, "UDPS the political party led by Etienne Tshisekedi has called on the pioneer of the DRC independence to react."
