Press review of 15 December 2006

Today's local press covers various subjects.

International Community's support to the DRC has not stopped with the end of the Transition, says Le Potentiel, indicating, "a new mechanism is being put in place for an effective coordination of the Donor's assistance, in replacement of the CIAT, [International Committee in Support of the Transition]. The 3rd Republic is therefore faced with a dilemma: either to subject its management to international control or safeguard its sovereignty."

"Joseph Kabila must rely on Antoine Gizenga to take up the bet of good governance and mobilisation of national resources," says La Référence Plus, highlighting, "Palu led by Antoine Gizenga's party has reportedly claimed the Ministries of Finance, Budget, Justice and the Central Bank.
L'Avenir notes, for its part, "Union pour la Nation (UN) [political platform that backed Jean- Pierre Bemba in the presidential run-off vote] has committed one more mistake by appealing to the Supreme Court of Justice to nullify the policies and procedures of the National Assembly." For the paper, "UN is seeking to delay the formation of the office of the National Assembly and therefore to block the formation of a new government."
With respect to the International Conference on the Great Lakes region, currently held in Nairobi, L'Observateur reports, "debates will focus on the revitalisation of the Inga dam."
