Press Review of 20 June 2007

UN Security Council's visit to DRC is the dominant news in today's local press.
"Arrived in Kinshasa yesterday, UN Security Council delegation met with President Kabila and other Government's officials this morning," reports Le Palmarès.

Le Phare says, "The purpose of the mission was to discuss security, good governance and human rights issues with the Government."

La Tempête des Tropiques writes "Members of Parliaments from both Kivus have handed a memorandum on insecurity in Eastern DRC to the UN Security Council delegation."

Le Phare has denounced the "exclusion of the non-institutional opposition from the talks," echoing some Kinshasa analysts' criticism of "the International Community's attempt to punish the Congolese who were opposed to foreign interference in the Congolese business, notably UDPS members, led by Etienne Tshisekedi."
Le Potentiel appeals to the UN Security Council to "change their approach of the Congolese crisis," recalling "the UN body has moral and political obligations to come up with a clear approach of the Congolese problem as well as appropriate and sustainable solutions."
