Press Review of 21 June 2007

Today's local press comments on the UN Security Council's visit to DRC.
The headlines in Le Palmarès read: "UN Security Council's Team met with DRC Head of State."

"UN Security Council's Team seriously has shown great concern about continued insecurity and violence in North and South Kivus," writes L'Observateur.

"UN Security Council has opted for Brassage and rejected the Mixage process on the grounds that the latter has caused many problems to the eastern DRC," reports Le Phare, echoing Ambassador Jean-Marc de la Sablière.

"UN Security Council Team has shunned in-depth discussion of insecurity issue in eastern DRC," reports La Tempête des Tropiques, indicating, "UN diplomats held the same old speech and kept the same attitude as usual, when it gets to sensitive issues."

"We no longer need slack-hand policy but effective political and military actions," estimates Le Potentiel, highlighting, "UNSC resolution 1756 is just ambiguous."

L'Avenir blames the "dual nature of some members of the International community, playing double role: fire raiser and firefighter whilst Rwanda is not willing to set favourable conditions for FDLR members to return to Rwanda."
